Izborsk fortress, located west of Pskov, is one of the oldest stone fortresses that have survived to this day and was built to protect the borders from invasion. Continuing our tour, we move to Pechory, which is 3 km away from the Estonian border, for our Pechory Town & Caves Monastery tour. The town of Pechory, where the "Setons", the Estonian Orthodox minority people with their own language and culture, live, is located around an Orthodox monastery; Founded by cave-dwelling monks in the 15th century, the monastery is one of the most important centers of modern Orthodoxy in Russia. Here you will see the Monastery of the Caves, an important religious center for the Orthodox and Seton people. II. The Monastery, which was also used as a shelter to protect the public during the World War II and the Soviet regime, is a complex consisting of caves and galleries with a dramatic atmosphere that can be explored by candlelight, as well as towers in the upper area, castle walls, and the Church of the Intercession built in blue and gold Russian Baroque architecture.
